NEW YORK, September 23: Recognition of a Palestinian state would be too great a reward for Hamas, US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday, repeating his call for the release of hostages - dead or alive - still held by the militant group in Gaza.
Trump called for an immediate end to the war in Gaza. Those who supported peace should united in demanding the release of the hostages, he said in a speech at the United Nations.
"As if to encourage continued conflict, some of this body is seeking to unilaterally recognize the Palestinian state. The rewards would be too great for Hamas terrorists, for their atrocities," he said.
Separately, Trump accused India, China, and NATO allies of indirectly financing Russia's war in Ukraine by continuing to purchase Russian oil and energy products. He warned that unless Europe fully severs ties with Moscow, the United States could impose additional sanctions and potentially punitive tariffs.

"China and India are the primary funders of the ongoing war by continuing to purchase Russian oil," Trump said, speaking on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. "But even NATO countries have not cut off much of Russia's energy. I found out about that two weeks ago, and I wasn't happy. Think of it. They're funding the war against themselves."
