Chris Davies explains Birmingham City's stance on signing a free agent - Birmingham Live

Birmingham City signed 12 players during the summer transfer window

Birmingham City have no interest in signing a free agent as things stand, according to Chris Davies.

Blues submitted a 24-man squad list to the EFL two weeks ago, leaving a space to register another player before January, with injured duo Lee Buchanan and Scott Wright omitted.

There are a number of high profile free agents still available to sign, including ex-England internationals Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - who was linked with Blues in the summer - and Dele Alli after their contracts were cancelled by Besiktas and Como respectively.

But Blues don't intend to dip into the market to sign anyone before January - unless an injury crisis grips Davies' first team squad.

"I think we're OK," says Davies. "We've got Scott and Lee who are long-term injuries but if things really accelerate for Scott, who is a bit sooner, then they could take over that space.

"You leave that as an option just in case there's an injury crisis and you have that room to manoeuvre and get somebody else in.

"We're not planning or looking to fill that space unless we really need to."
