Lydia Popowski bounded out of the helicopter after it landed at the Davenport Municipal Airport, ran to her parents and let them know she'd like to go again.
Lydia's 6-year-old brother, Bradley, was getting ready to board for his helicopter ride.
Asked what she liked about it, Lydia said, "Tipping and having fun. It went real high." Bradley said he was looking forward to spinning in the copter.
With their parents, Jered and Beth, the Popowski's were among thousands who attended the first day of the 34th annual Quad City Air Show.
"We come out here a lot of times and it's a lot of fun," Jered Popowski said, as Bradley geared up for his helicopter ride.
The air show kicked off with the Army's Golden Knights Flag Jump to go along with the National Anthem.
Then came the Tora Tora Tora World War II demonstration put on by the Commemorative Air Force of Texas. It recreated the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
"I get out here every year," said Mike Tuftee. "I love it. My parents were living in Eldridge when I was in the womb, and mom told me when the planes flew over the house, she could feel me kicking."
Now working for Arconic, Tuftee said he loves "the old war birds, the World War II-era planes and the MiG-17. Of course, who doesn't love watching the Thunderbirds."
Andrew Speer, of Davenport, took a peek around the B-25J "Miss Mitchell," which served in the 310th Bomb Group, 57th Bomb Wing of the 12th Air Force in North Africa and Italy, completing over 130 missions.
He was surprised to see two dummy bombs in the bomb bay.
Speer was providing a birthday present to his nephew James Connell, 4, whose birthday is on the 25th.
"We came out here to have a birthday day," Speer said.
"It's my first time out here in 20 years. We're waiting for the Thunderbirds and trying to get into one of these planes," he added with a smile.
James was fascinated by the B-25 but loved watching the planes putting on their shows.
Asked if he liked them, James spoke for many with a "thumbs up."
The airshow continues Sunday with gates opening at 8 a.m. At 8:30 a.m., the World War II Dawn Patrol will take off to "Wake up the town." Sunday's shows will kick off at noon with the Army Golden Knights Flag Jump.
And anyone worried about the heat should not be, with cooler temperatures expected. According to the National Weather Service, Davenport, Sunday's forecast calls for a high of only 72 degrees with a northwest wind blowing at 5-15 mph.
