Video has emerged of the Grammy winning country music star changing the lyrics of a song that was inspired by his longtime wife, Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman.
News broke that the power couple is separating after 19 years of marriage this week, with multiple outlets such as People reporting that its Urban who is the driving force behind the decision.
The video was posted to Instagram before the news became public.
The video, shared by emerging country singer Maggie Baugh, shows her performing "The Fighter" with Urban. The original song, performed with Carrie Underwood, had lyrics that read: "When they're tryna get to you, baby I'll be the fighter."
But while performing with Baugh, Urban changed the line, instead singing: "When they're tryna get to you, Maggie I'll be your guitar player."
The video was captioned with "Did he just say that?" along with eyeball emojis. Numerous people were leaving comments on the video, with some criticizing Urban and Baugh for being classless.
"It was just a very quick, quick song to write, because I literally thought about Nic and I and our relationship in the beginning, and some of the things we had said all went into that song," he said.
A video was also released on Urban's YouTube when the song debuted. Shot with Urban's own camera, it shows him and Kidman sitting in their car as the song plays on the radio. Urban serenades Kidman with the song while Kidman lip-syncs to Underwood's vocals.
Urban and Baugh have been touring together on his "High and Alive World Tour."
