Man Utd news: Paul Pogba set for football return as Ruben Amorim replacement hint given - The Mirror

Manchester United have a fortnight off following their match against Sunderland on Saturday afternoon, with plenty to ponder during the international break. The first game back is a big one, too, with United travelling to Premier League holders Liverpool.

A fair few members of United's squad are set to link up with their national teams during the break. Among them is Bryan Mbeumo, whose Cameroon side need two wins to keep alive their hopes of reaching the World Cup without the need for a play-off.

United's trip to Anfield last season was one of their better displays under Ruben Amorim. After a goalless first half, Lisandro Martinez fired them into the lead, only for Liverpool to hit back with a pair of goals before Amad delivered a late equaliser.

Much of the off-field talk this season has surrounded Amorim, who found himself under pressure even before a downturn in results in the early part of the season. A number of potential replacements have been mooted and one of them has spoken about his future.

With such a long time until the next league game, there's plenty for United fans to ponder. Here are Mirror Football's latest lines from around Old Trafford.

Andoni Iraola is one of the managers mentioned as a future Manchester United boss. His Bournemouth team came from behind to beat Fulham on Friday, continuing their impressive form under a manager wo made a slow start on the south coast, and Iraola has spoken about the importance of long-term thinking.

"I think sometimes you feel overwhelmed, but you also know how this works," the boss told Sky Sports. "I think you have to value the long-term, season-by-season, at the end of your career will put you wherever you belong.

"It's not just a one-season thing, you have to be there to stay and get results with the teams that you have. As I've said before, if you don't have good players, it's going to be very difficult.

"The players that are here are the most important thing of this game, and I'm very happy with the teams I've coached before and with the team that I have this season."

Monaco manager Adi Hutter is hopeful of welcoming back Paul Pogba for the Ligue 1 side's Champions League meeting with Tottenham Hotspur. The former Manchester Unted star last played in 2023, but is available again following a ban for a positive doping test - a ban which was reduced after his offence was ruled to be 'not intentional' - and is getting closer to match sharpness.

"He is doing more and more with the team," Hutter said, as translated by GFFN. "Our goal was for him to maybe in the squad for Nice, but it is a bit too early. Against Angers, I hope he can be a part of the squad

"I think he can be ready to face Angers but it could be the match after [against Tottenham]," the manager added. "It is in my mind how to increase the load, maybe [by playing him] in a match, [with] 15/20 minutes against Angers.

"He is already in the dressing room, even if he doesn't wear the shirt. He has been in the dressing room in the past matches to encourage us, giving instructions to the young players, and they like having someone in the dressing room who has won everything."
