Dancehall, created by Emma Martin and Andrew Hamilton - performed by Luail company dancers with live-music from Crash Ensemble - will tour to six venues across Ireland this October - opening the Belfast International Arts Festival on October 15th before moving onto Donegal, Cork, Dublin, Galway and Limerick.
Dancehall returns, 10 years on - more alive than ever - and reimagined for Luail's company of dancers. Inspired by Ireland's Public Dance Halls Act, this exhilarating work revels in the powerful simplicity and raw humanity of the dancehall, a space where freedom, resistance and individuality unapologetically meet in messy, sweaty, chaotic joy.
TOUR DATES:
15th October 2025 - Belfast International Arts Festival The MAC, Belfast
Speaking about the work, Emma Martin said: "Going back to this show 10 years later, has been a very refreshing experience. There was a certain austerity in this piece first time around, conceptually, so having the opportunity to reimagine and open it up more now, really digging into the idea of a dancehall - a space where humans surrender to each other - has brought a sense of lightness and ease. I'm enjoying the honesty and simplicity of that. This time it feels more about people and less about an idea".
