I-83 northbound crash near state line kills two, injures four

E. coli food poisoning linked to McDonald's Quarter Pounder hamburgers has sickened at least 49 people in 10 states, including one person who died and 10 who were hospitalized, federal health officials said.

Maryland State Police are investigating a crash that killed two people and injured four others on Interstate 83 northbound Wednesday afternoon near the Pennsylvania state line.

According to a police statement, the crash occurred just after 2 p.m. near York Road. The driver of a pickup truck and the driver of a mobile crane were pronounced dead at the scene. Four others involved in the crash were taken to WellSpan York Hospital for treatment.

A preliminary investigation of the crash revealed that a pickup truck hauling a trailer was traveling southbound on I-83, but for some unknown reason, lost control and crossed over into the northbound lanes and struck the mobile crane.

All lanes of northbound I-83 were closed for hours during the crash investigation. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, police said.

The identities of the two drivers that were killed have been withheld until their next-of-kin are notified.
