Summer warning issued over disposable barbecues

As the weather gets warmer, the fire service is urging people not to use disposable barbecues. A video was shared by Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue pleading with the public to not use the barbecues this summer due to the risk they pose.

Alongside the video, which features Dan Moss, an area manager at Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, is a statement which reads: "Make sure you're keeping fire safe this weekend.

"Avoid using portable BBQs, especially in hot and dry conditions where wildfires can start and spread more easily."

In the video Dan explains that the service is raising awareness of the potential dangers of portable barbecues.

He states: "We recognise that summer months are coming and we want people to enjoy themselves, but not with disposable barbecues where there's the potential for fire to spread.

"They are quite dangerous, certainly when we see the hot weather, the potential for that fire spread is quite significant.

"So please don't use those where it's not appropriate to do so."

He went on to remind viewers of the potential dangers when getting into an open water source.

He said: "Please stay away from any open water when there's the potential to go in and get cold water shock. Parents, guardians, please make sure that you know where your children are.

"Make sure they're supervised at all times, because the dangers that we've been talking about are real."
