Belichick, who is 73 and now coaches the University of North Carolina football team, didn't really answer the question, instead praising Hudson for her role in his life and her involvement with the book.
"Well, she's been terrific," he said. "She's been very helpful to me. She does the business things that don't relate to North Carolina that come up in my life, so I can concentrate on football. That's really what I want to do.
"I acknowledged her in the book. She was very helpful on that with the tribute pages, and also gives a perspective of the book from a business side. Sometimes I get a little football technical, so she did a good job of keeping me on balance there."
Belichick and Hudson made waves for a previous promotional interview, with "CBS Sunday Morning," in which Hudson interjected to turn down a question about how the two met. (Strahan noted that Hudson was not in attendance for the "Good Morning America" interview.)
Since the CBS interview, Hudson has not resumed her usual posting frequency on Instagram, where she used to often share photos of the couple in addition to pushing back on negative commentary about their relationship.
Hudson tacitly addressed the situation at the Miss Maine USA pageant last Sunday, when she said she hopes anybody watching the competition "finds the strength to push through whatever it is they're going through and embodies hate never wins."
Strahan also asked Belichick what Hudson means to him.
"We have a good personal relationship," Belichick said. "I'm not talking about personal relationships, Michael. You know that."
Strahan agreed and ended with one more question: Is Belichick happy?
Earlier this week, ESPN also asked Belichick about his relationship during an interview in Florida for the ACC spring meetings.
"I know that you're aware that your relationship with Jordon Hudson has been a headline over the last few months," ESPN's Christine Williamson said. "All of the specifics aside, because I know a lot has come out in the last couple of days, how do you think that impacts your ability to coach this football team, if at all?"
Belichick maintained that his relationship with Hudson is separate from his coaching duties. Ex-ESPN writer Pablo Torre reported that Hudson was banned from North Carolina's football facilities, but the school issued a statement saying she is still welcome.
"That's really off to the side," Belichick said. "It's a personal relationship and she doesn't have anything to do with UNC football. I'm excited to be back in the coaches meetings and getting ready for June and then August when we get into training camp. So, June will be a big recruiting month for us, and then August we'll start to get ready for the season."
