Elizabeth Banks Declares 'You Can't Pay' Anyone in Hollywood to 'Say a Bad Word' About Jessica Biel (Exclusive)

Jessica Biel has a perfect reputation in Hollywood -- and Elizabeth Banks can attest to it.

The actresses star as estranged sisters in Prime Video's The Better Sister, but before working together, Biel and Banks had only met briefly and "did not know each other well," Banks tells PEOPLE. "So we really got to know each other through doing this together."

Banks wasn't exactly nervous about what was to come from Biel, though, considering she "had only ever heard" good things.

"You can't pay someone in town to say a bad word about this lady," she reveals. "So I had only ever heard the loveliest things."

"I had reliable sourcing that this was going to be easy and it was," Banks, 51, says. "She completely lived up to that reputation of just being kind and generous and talented and beautiful and fun and easy, and it all worked out."

Banks also says that the good things she'd heard about her costar were trustworthy because "Hollywood knows."

"We root out the bad ones," she reveals. "You can't really hide."

Biel, 43, agrees. "You can't hide from us," she says of how word travels in Hollywood.

The 7th Heaven alum also returns the compliment for her costar, telling PEOPLE that "there was nothing anyone ever said that was a negative comment about Elizabeth."

"Just fun, smart, does everything, so beyond incredible, funny, all the things that everybody knows about her from her work, all is of course true," Biel says.

But it was more than just that -- the actresses also bonded over the "nuance-y things" that they didn't realize they had in common. Namely, that they're both moms of two boys. "We just mom vibed immediately," Biel says.

"It was kind of just, oh, we could be friends -- if we were at the same school, we would be friends."

Biel shares sons Silas, 10, and Phineas, 4, with husband Justin Timberlake and Banks shares sons Felix, 14, and Magnus, 12, with husband Max Handelman.

The actresses also star as boy moms in The Better Sister, which sees them play estranged sisters Chloe (Biel) and Nicky (Banks) who are drawn back together after Chloe's husband Adam (Corey Stoll) is brutally murdered -- and the prime suspect is their teenage son Ethan (Maxwell Acee Donovan).

The murder "sends shockwaves through the family, reuniting the two sisters as they try to untangle a complicated family history to discover the truth behind his death" in the eight-episode series based on Alafair Burke's 2019 book.
