Vancouver Rise FC fell 3-0 to Ottawa Rapid Sept. 20 at Swangard Stadium
The Ottawa Rapid FC defeated the Vancouver Rise FC on Saturday (Sept. 20) and clinched its spot in the Northern Super League (NSL) playoffs.
The Rise FC held possession 64 per cent of the match and took 19 shots, eight of which were on goal, while the Rapid FC took eight shots, five of which were on goal.
"It was a frustrating afternoon at Swangard Stadium on Saturday, as Vancouver Rise FC lost 3-0 to Ottawa Rapid FC despite dominating a majority of the match," noted a Rise FC press release Saturday.
Rise FC head coach Anja Heiner-Møller said, "Well, we're disappointed. I don't think the result today showed the game. I think it was a game where we dominated most of the game. We did produce chances, we just need to be sharper on our end, scoring on our chances but also being cleaner in our own half, when they don't actually have that much."
AFC is currently in first place in the NSL with 42 points, followed by Ottawa Rapid with 36, Montreal Roses FC with 35 and Rise FC with 32. The top four teams in the league will play in the semifinals, with three teams already clinching their spot: AFC Toronto, Montreal Roses and Ottawa Rapid. The final is scheduled for Nov. 15 at BMO Field in Toronto.
The Rise FC's next match is in Halifax against Halifax Tides FC on Sept. 27.
Vancouver Rise are part of Canada's first professional women's soccer league, the Northern Super League. The other clubs are Calgary Wild FC, Halifax Tides FC, Montréal Roses, Ottawa Rapid FC and AFC Toronto.
