Superman comes to Digital this weekend after a very strong theatrical run. The film introduced a wider audience to the DC Comics' universe with its inclusion of heroes like Hawkgirl, Mr. Terrific, and Guy Gardner's Green Lantern. However, the one major hero missing from the new continuity's debut film was Batman. The Caped Crusader will get his own DCU film in The Brave and the Bold. That said, before Batman joins David Corenswet's Man of Steel, Gotham City is getting some new figures from NECA.
NECA's Toony Classic line, Series 2 includes three famous DC figures: Batman, The Penguin, and Catwoman. While all three characters had major roles in Matt Reeves' The Batman, as the name implies, these are comic-inspired designs. Batman is ready for a fight wearing a navy blue/gray Batsuit with a giant bat symbol for good measure, while Catwoman is seen in the purple variant of the suit, and The Penguin is in a blue-and-white tuxedo. There is a ton of great detail to these figures, like the pencil eyebrows on the bat cowl, a clear nod to the '60s era of the character, and Penguin is holding one of his many killer umbrellas.
DC's Comic Book Roots Close
While the films and various TV shows are where the average mainstream viewer consumes these characters, more than a few companies have been honoring DC with comic book figures. This includes NECA, who had Superman and The Joker in their first series. On top of that, McFarlane Toys has been killing it with their DC Multiverse seven-inch scale figures. Just recently they released comic figures for Batman: Year One and The Dark Knight Returns.
As for where Batman will show up first in the DCU, that has technically already happened. The Dark Knight made a brief shadowy cameo in Creature Commandos Season 1. We didn't get a good look at the costume and the DC hero hasn't been cast yet. However, it does mean that Batman is already very active in Gotham. The Brave and the Bold will then soon feature a seasoned version of the character who is training his son, Damien Wayne, to become the next Robin. This is based on Grant Morrison's Son of Batman.
When Does 'The Brave and the Bold' Release?
The Brave and the Bold doesn't have a release date or window yet, but Clayface will be getting his own horror film next year on September 11, 2026. Outside the DCU continuity, The Batman Part II is also set to hit theaters on October 1, 2027. Before Gotham City returns to the big screen, you can pre-order NECA's Toony Classic Series 2 figures featuring Batman on their website. You can buy them in a bundle for $44.97 USD. They're set to release later this year.
