Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed support for US President Donald Trump's leadership as peace talks in Gaza showed major progress. Modi said the signs of Israeli hostages being released by Hamas were an important step toward restoring peace in the region. In a post on X, the Prime Minister wrote: "We welcome President Trump's leadership as peace efforts in Gaza make decisive progress. Indications of the release of hostages mark a significant step forward. India will continue to strongly support all efforts towards a durable and just peace."
Earlier this week, Modi had also backed Trump's Gaza peace plan, calling it a practical and hopeful path to lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians. "We welcome President Donald J. Trump's announcement of a comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict. It offers a viable way forward for long-term peace, security, and development for both the Palestinian and Israeli people, as well as for the wider West Asian region. We hope all parties will unite behind this initiative to end the conflict and build lasting peace," he said.
