YORK COUNTY -- Five teens have been charged and three are in custody Friday after a series of break-ins and attempted break-ins.
According to the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office, on Oct. 4, at approximately 1:50 a.m., sheriff's office deputies responded to the Tabb Exxon in the 3100 block of Big Bethel Road to a report of three individuals attempting to break into the business.
When the deputies arrived at the business, the three suspects fled on foot into the surrounding neighborhood, the sheriff's office said. Additional deputies arrived and began searching for the three suspects. After a two-hour search through woods and the surrounding neighborhoods, all three were captured and arrested.
The three individuals apprehended are all juvenile males who live in York County, according to the sheriff's office. An investigation later determined that the three individuals were also involved in a recent burglary at BK's Tobacco and Vape, located in the 2900 block of Hampton Highway, on Sept. 28, and an attempted burglary at Tabb Exxon on Sept. 29.
Investigators also determined that two additional juveniles were involved in the BK's Tobacco and Vape burglary and the attempted burglary at the Tabb Exxon, and charges are pending against those individuals as well, the sheriff's office said.
The list of charges against the five juveniles, aged 15- to 17-years-old, are Burglary, Attempted Burglary, Conspiracy to Commit a Felony, and Possession of Burglary Tools, all felonies, the sheriff's office said. The three juveniles in custody were ordered detained in the Merrimac Detention Center.
