FORT FISHER, NC (WWAY) -- Fall is here and there are plenty of ways to get in the spooky spirit at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.
The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher is hosting three fun, fall events to get you in the Halloween spirit and help save the environment and its species all at the same time.
First, the aquarium will host a Spooky Seas event with underwater shenanigans. Pumpkins, spooky frozen treats and sunken secrets await at Graveyard of the Atlantic. Divers will carve pumpkins under water. Halloween-inspired enrichment for the animals from the otters to the alligators to Maverick, the bald eagle, will be a real treat for visitors. Visitors will see the passion that the animal care team has for conservation of the many species at the Aquarium, with all staff and volunteers sharing their story. Get Lost in the Deep Saturday, Oct. 19 - Friday, Nov. 1 at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher. The ghoulish fun is included with an Aquarium admission during regular hours 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Online tickets are required to visit the Aquarium.
You can also help the aquarium celebrate Reptile Awareness Day on October 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The NCAFF education team is highlighting all kinds of these air-breathing vertebrates with two special reptile encounters -- a snake at 11:15 a.m. and an aquatic turtle at 3:30 p.m.
Finally, the aquarium and the Town of Carolina Beach are hosting a "Boo to Trash" beach clean up. It's happening at the Carolina Beach Pier on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 8-10 a.m. You are invited to wear costumes for a costume contest. Don't buy anything new. The goal is to reuse and recycle. The winner will get a fun and sustainable prize.
There will be free parking onsite for costumed cleanup crew.
