ESPN released a list of 43 players who it says are breakout candidates or "sleepers" for the 2025 season on Wednesday morning.
One under-the-radar player from Alabama made the cut: sophomore cornerback Cam Calhoun. ESPN's Adam Rittenberg put Calhoun on the list after speaking with coaches and players from across the country throughout the offseason.
Here's Rittenberg's analysis on Redmond:
Calhoun is with his third Power 4 team and should be a valuable addition for an Alabama secondary that has better depth than in 2024 but must replace productive safety Malachi Moore. The Tide probably will use Calhoun at cornerback or nickel, as he can play alongside returning starters Domani Jackson and Zabien Brown. Calhoun played sparingly at Michigan but led Utah in pass breakups last season, while tying for fourth in the Big 12. He had three pass breakups against Iowa State, intercepted a pass against Utah State and also spoiled a 2-point conversion attempt by BYU with an interception in the end zone.
Alabama has a ton of talent at the cornerback position, led by Domani Jackson and Zabien Brown. Calhoun is going to be able to come in and provide legitimate depth for the Tide. Teams like LSU and Auburn have as talented of trios at the receiver position as anybody in the country, so having plenty of depth in the secondary is an absolute must.
Redmond joined Michigan as a 4-star prospect and the No. 397 overall player in the country for the class of 2023, per 247Sports Composite rankings. Usually 4-star prospects are looked at as guys who can impact a program sooner, but he has had a little different journey as he is at his 3rd school in three years. If he is able to build off his play last season at Utah, then the Crimson Tide should have one of the best secondaries in the country.
