This is big. Taysom Hill and Foster Moreau are going to dress out for Sunday's game with the New York Giants, marking their return from last season's knee injuries in the first week they're eligible to do so. That's some big reinforcements for the New Orleans Saints offense. The news was first reported by the Times-Picayune's Jeff Duncan and confirmed by NewOrleans.Football's Nick Underhill.
Underhill adds that Hill "is expected to have a role" against the Giants; this isn't activating him just to say he was. First-year head coach Kellen Moore has done a good job keeping his plans for Hill under a lid. We've previously seen him get a lot of work as a rusher with occasional passing when Sean Payton was calling plays. When Klint Kubiak took over last year he kept Hill involved as a blocking fullback who took a lot of handoffs out of the backfield. Moore's role is a mystery.
Hopefully it makes a difference against a Giants run defense which ranks last in rushing yards allowed per attempt (6.1) and fourth-worst in rushing yards per game (153.0), while being tied for the third-most touchdown runs allowed through four games (6). A couple of big plays from Hill wouldn't just be vindicating after his long road back from a serious knee injury. It could legitimately turn the Saints' fortunes around and help stop their losing skid.
