NAMI Greater Mississippi Valley will begin a support group next month, designed for family members and friends of people living with a mental health condition.
One in five people in the U.S. are diagnosed with a mental health condition each year. Research indicates people with mental health conditions are more able to recover fully if they are supported at home.
NAMI's new support group kicks off Thursday, June 5.
This new NAMI Family Support Group will meet the first Thursday of each month from 6 to 7 p.m. at Calvary Church, 499 W. 61 Bypass, Door B6, Muscatine. More information is available at www.namigmv.org/events. No advance registration is needed, there is no charge to attend and all are welcome.
"NAMI Family Support Groups are free, confidential and safe groups of families helping other families who live with mental health challenges," said NAMI Support and Education Coordinator Laurie Edge. "Families join a caring group of people helping one another by using their collective lived experience and learned wisdom."
