According to Deadline, the $50million film is heading for a projected $3m opening.
The film follows two single strangers who meet at a mutual friend's wedding and through a surprising twist of fate, as the official synopsis reads, "find themselves on A Big Bold Beautiful Journey - a funny, fantastical, sweeping adventure together where they get to re-live important moments from their respective pasts, illuminating how they got to where they are in the present...and possibly getting a chance to alter their futures."
The film was off to a promising start: the script was written by The Menu screenwriter Seth Reiss and was featured on the coveted Black List in 2020 - a yearly roundup of screenplays that are beloved in the industry but unproduced. Juno, Spotlight, and The Revenant were previous entries in the list.
Now, it appears audiences have not taken to the genre fusion of fantasy and romance, despite the two huge names attached. Despite this, Robbie has previously confessed that filming the project was the most "magical experience" of her career so far.
It marks the third project from acclaimed director Kogonada. It includes Lily Rabe, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge in the supporting cast.
Instead, the failing project has been beaten by a record-breaking anime movie, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, which has become the highest-grossing anime film in US box office history. Another box office contender is Universal/Monkeypaw's Him, starring Tyriq Withers and Julia Fox, which is currently set for a $15m opening.
Robbie has been the centre of other online discourse in the film world, as she is set to star alongside Jacob Elordi in Emerald Fennell's upcoming adaptation of Wuthering Heights. In the movie, Robbie stars as the lead character of Catherine Earnshaw, opposite Elordi as Heathcliff. It is set for a February 2026 cinematic release.
