An elderly woman died before her hopes to become a centenarian could come true -- due to a nursing home incident involving a hot beverage.
Margaret Eluned Roberts was burned by a cup of tea that spilled onto her while she was at the facility in Wales, England, on Sept. 22, 2024. She then died a little over a month later on Oct. 28, according to an investigation done by Kate Robertson, the senior coroner for northwest Wales.
Per the inquiry, Roberts -- who was 99 at the time of her death, and would've turned 100 in September 2025 -- died "as a result of medical conditions which were precipitated by a burn injury sustained to her leg."
The coroner listed Roberts' cause of death as pneumonia and cellulitis secondary to a burn, with old age, asthma and ischaemic heart disease as contributory factors.
The death, the coroner added in the documents obtained by PEOPLE, was officially ruled an "accident."

Roberts was a resident at the Glan Rhos nursing home at the time of the incident, WalesOnline reported.
Sarah Thomas, a healthcare assistant at the facility, said she knew Roberts was blind, but she gave her the hot beverage because she said the elderly woman was "very independent" and "wanted to drink the cup of tea herself," per the outlet.
Jo Reavey, a nurse at Glan Rhos, said she found Roberts "distraught with her arms raised" after she spilled the hot tea on herself, according to WalesOnline.
Roberts was taken to receive care for the burns at the Ysbyty Gwynedd hospital. After a transfer back to the nursing home, the woman then returned to the hospital, where she later died, the outlet reported.
In a statement, per WalesOnline, Robertson told Roberts' daughter, Linda Pritchard, that her mother "wanted to reach 100 years old," adding: "It would have been such a significant milestone."
The Glan Rhos nursing home and the Ysbyty Gwynedd hospital did not respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.
