Big Lots reopening stores in 13 Ohio cities

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Big Lots, the discount retailer based out of Columbus, will reopen 13 stores across Ohio on June 5.

The June openings include seven locations in Northeast Ohio as well as stores in Canton and Cincinnati.

The effort is part of a revitalization strategy led by new owner Variety Wholesalers, which acquired 219 Big Lots locations from liquidator Gordon Brothers after buying the company in January. The company has been working to reestablish the discount retailer's footprint nationwide.

In April, Lisa Seigies, president and CEO of Variety Wholesalers, announced in a press release that 132 stores would be reopening nationwide in May with "newly expanded assortment of fresh inventory and great deals."

Big Lots began reopening stores in phases starting May 1, with some Ohio locations following on May 15.

The June 5 reopenings mark the largest single-day rollout in Ohio, with stores reopening across the northeast, central and southern parts of the state.
