Horatio Fields injury update: How long will Auburn football wide receiver be sidelined?

AUBURN -- A broken foot for Auburn football wide receiver Horatio Fields ahead of the Texas A&M game on Saturday, Sept. 27, was a crucial blow for the Tigers' receiving corps, but Hugh Freeze offered a clearer picture for the Wake Forest transfer's potential return Monday, Oct. 6.

Freeze said the timeline for Fields' return was 6 to 8 weeks, putting the receiver on track to return against FCS Mercer on Saturday, Nov. 22.

"I never know exactly what that means," Freeze said. "I don't know if that means you've got that timeframe, and then the timeframe after that for him to actually get back going and feel good enough to cut and play at receiver. If you're an offensive lineman, it might be a little quicker, but when you're running and have to make cuts, you're never quite sure exactly what that timeline looks like."

A senior, Fields transferred to Auburn this offseason after three years at Wake Forest, where he caught 44 passes for 517 yards and 4 touchdowns. His 2024 was a career campaign, with 463 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 39 receptions.
