Ex-Special Counsel Could Be Key In Helping James Comey's Defense: Report
John Durham, the former special counsel once appointed by the Trump administration to investigate the FBI's probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election, has reportedly undercut the case against former FBI Director James Comey, sources told ABC News.
Durham told federal prosecutors that he was unable to uncover evidence that Comey -- who was indicted last month shortly after Trump pushed his attorney general to prosecute his political enemies -- to support false statements and obstruction of justice charges against him.
Durham's remote interview with federal prosecutors in August could prove to be key in helping the former FBI director's defense, ABC News noted.
