Man dies after being ejected from vehicle during crash in East Windsor

A man has died after being ejected from his vehicle during a crash in East Windsor early Sunday morning.

An officer on patrol came upon a man in the road on Rye Street around 12:30 a.m.

Police said the man, later identified as 27-year-old Jared Charette, had multiple injuries and was unconscious. The officer began administering CPR while waiting for emergency crews to arrive. Despite lifesaving efforts, Charette was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shortly away from where Charette was found, investigators said they found his Ford F-350 pickup truck. It had reportedly left the road, went over a guardrail, hit a utility pole and was being held in place by utility wires on an embankment.

According to police, it appears Charette was driving northbound on Rye Street when he crossed the center line, hit the guardrail, overturned and was ejected from his vehicle.

Charette's vehicle was carrying a separate diesel fuel cell that was damaged in the crash, police said. This resulted in a slow fuel leak down the embankment and the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection responded to mitigate the spill.

Eversource also responded to secure the downed power lines.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information should call East Windsor Police Department at (860) 292-8240.
