Retro games are a labor of love, and the communities that keep them alive and keep hoping for a new entry in their favorite franchise, deserve to be heard.
After all, some Retro games warranted a sequel or some kind of treatment for so long that it's hard to know why companies haven't jumped on the bandwagon to take advantage of that heightened nostalgia. We even asked you what retro games you all wanted to see return in some way, and you and others did not disappoint.
Destructoid decided to reach out to multiple communities to see what retro games need either a remake, reboot, or a return, and while a lot of them are pretty standard, we did find some unearthed gems in the mix. So, in no particular order, here is what you'll want to see return in some form or another.
Even though we recently had a spin-off F-Zero title with F-Zero 99, fans are still crying out for more from this legendary series, saying that a new F-Zero on modern hardware would be "amazing" and that the community would "love a new F-Zero game proper on Switch 2!"
I can't count how many people specifically wanted Megaman Legends. Not just any old Megaman game, especially a Legends game, with most feeling like the games weren't appreciated enough back in the day. It feels like it would thrive in today's modern hardware with the characters, lore, and world all being so cool and charming that most other Megaman games can only hope to achieve.
I need to come clean here, Destructoid. I have no idea what this game is, but a lot of people were calling for it, saying it was 'a great concept: a mix of Indiana Jones like aesthetic, Tailspin like world building, Rouge Squadron like controls!"
Feels like I missed out on a banger.
Considering Capcom missed the game's 20th anniversary and didn't even give us a digital release or pack the two games in one. Viewtiful Joe is a beloved classic franchise and as one person put it, its a "damn shame" that we haven't gotten anything since, other than an singular appearance from the main character in a Marvel vs. Capcom game.
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night may have scratched the itch, but the retro family is crying out for more, especially after the wildly successful Netflix Castlevania shows. Most people who commented about it said it was "way overdue," and a sentiment we definitely agree with. Stop holding out on us, Konami!
"STARTROPICS!!!"
The bear and bird need to come back, and it is one I share with a lot of you. A lot of folks, including myself, want a full remake of the original two games or an actual Banjo-Threeie. None of this Nuts and Bolts crap, a true flue blooded collectathon 3D platformer.
For whatever reason, Nintendo seems hesitant to give us anything Earthbound for years now. I can't really sum up the comments more than the classic comment that has become a staple meme in the community.
So, give us Mother 3 in the west at least!!!
I'm aware I had to leave out a lot of other comments and requests that fans have been pining for, so let us know in the comments a retro game that wasn't included that you'd like to see get a remake, reboot, or a new game in the series!
