With the 2025 NFL season set to begin in 13 days, we believe there are at least a few quarterbacks who could be on the move via trade.
All 32 NFL teams will have to reduce their active rosters to a maximum of 53 players by this Tuesday, August 26. That could force a few teams to trim their quarterback rooms. For example, the New York Giants have a crowded depth chart at the moment.
Russell Wilson has already been named the starting quarterback for the Giants. Rookie gunslinger Jaxson Dart, meanwhile, earned himself the No. 2 job by picking apart the competition in the preseason. The Ole Miss product completed 68.1% of his passes for 372 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions.
Since the Giants are already committed to Wilson and Dart, they may have to consider trading away either Jameis Winston or Tommy DeVito.
The Giants signed Winston to a two-year, $8 million deal earlier this year. While it would be a bit odd seeing them move on from the former No. 1 pick, the timing feels right. It's also worth noting that he'd draw a few trade suitors.
Even though J.J. McCarthy will be the starter for the Minnesota Vikings this fall, the team could use a bit more insurance. Winston would give Kevin O'Connell a true gunslinger capable of starting if McCarthy goes down.
After all, Winston has 24,225 passing yards and 154 touchdowns in his career.
According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, there's an "increasing feeling" that the Cleveland Browns will carry all four quarterbacks on their 53-man roster. They have named Joe Flacco and their starter, and most fans assume they'll hold onto rookie quarterbacks Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders.
If the Browns aren't willing to keep four quarterbacks on the roster, trading away Kenny Pickett makes a ton of sense. The former first-round pick would fetch Day 3 draft compensation, which could be helpful for Cleveland in 2026.
The New Orleans Saints would be an ideal landing spot for Pickett. For starters, they have a weak quarterback room that is currently anchored by Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough. It also helps that Pickett has experience playing in head coach Kellen Moore's system. Sure it was just one season with the Philadelphia Eagles, but that matters.
The Indianapolis Colts announced earlier this week that Daniel Jones will be their starting quarterback. In our opinion, that should signal the end of Anthony Richardson's time with the franchise. And for what it's worth, his agent, Deiric Jackson, isn't thrilled about the news.
"We have a lot to discuss," Jackson told ESPN. "Trust is a big factor and that is, at best, questionable right now. Anthony came back and made the improvements in the areas he needed to improve. And by all accounts, he had a great camp."
Richardson, the No. 4 pick from the 2023 NFL Draft, struggled mightily for the Colts during the 2024 season. He completed just 47.7% of his passes for 1,814 yards with eight touchdowns and 12 interceptions. The Florida product also had 499 rushing yards and seven fumbles.
At this stage in Richardson's career, he needs an offensive-minded coach who can work miracles with quarterbacks. This is where Sean McVay enters the picture. The longtime head coach of the Los Angeles Rams knows how to get the best out of his offensive playmakers.
Pursuing Richardson would be a low-risk, high-reward move for the Rams. If everything works out, he'd give the team a potential successor for Matthew Stafford.
