United Eliminates New Annual Wi-Fi Subscriptions

United Eliminates New Annual Wi-Fi Subscriptions

United Airlines no longer offers annual subscriptions for in-flight Wi-Fi service, the carrier announced Friday in an email to United for Business recipients. Travelers' current subscriptions will remain active until one year from purchase, but after that date, they will not be available for renewal.

The carrier is making this change because United is in the process of providing Wi-Fi for free to MileagePlus members. The airline is installing Starlink Wi-Fi across its fleet, which will power the service.

For flights not yet available with Starlink Wi-Fi, travelers still will be able to purchase Wi-Fi access in advance or on their flight. Monthly subscriptions remain for sale, starting at $49 or 7,500 points with a MileagePlus account. Day passes also are available for non-Starlink-installed planes starting at $8 on domestic flights, according to United.
