HPC meeting on Ladakh set for Oct 6: Official

New Delhi, Sept 20: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has scheduled the next meeting of the High-Powered Committee (HPC) on Ladakh for October 6, 2025, at 11 a.m. The session will be held in Conference Hall-3500-B, Kartavya Bhavan-3, New Delhi, according to an official communique.

The HPC, constituted to address the concerns of the Union Territory of Ladakh, is expected to deliberate on several long-standing demands, including the push for statehood and the inclusion of Ladakh under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.

Confirming the development, Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh, Tashi Gyalson, expressed his gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. In a social media post, Gyalson said, "I am pleased to inform that MHA has announced the HPC meeting date on 6th October, 2025. Thank you Hon'ble Union Home Minister Amit Shah Ji. My best wishes to everyone."

Social activist Sajjad Kargili welcomed the announcement, urging that the talks be meaningful and outcome-oriented. Writing on "X," he said, "Finally, MHA has decided to resume talks with Ladakhi leadership. We hope these talks will lead to the restoration of democratic rights in terms of statehood and Sixth Schedule for #Ladakh. We expect that these talks would not be for the sake of it but must be result-oriented."

Earlier on September 12, the Apex Body of Leh and the Kargil Democratic Alliance reiterated their protest against delays in government dialogue. They called on the people of both Leh and Kargil to intensify their united movement demanding statehood and constitutional safeguards.
