Storm Amy, the first storm of this winter season, is landing on Friday, and in its midst brings a risk of power cuts to households across the country.
Met Eireann has warned that due to high winds and heavy rains expected, damage to powerlines may occur which would in turn cause power outages.

According to the map, there are two faults currently reported, one in Ballinrobe, County Mayo and one in Rathmore, County Kerry, though it is not known if there are weather related.
Around 200 customers are impacted by these combined outages, with ESB Networks saying: "We apologise for the loss of supply. We are currently working to repair a fault affecting your premises and will restore power as quickly as possible."
Storm Amy is due to land around noon, with a number of Met Eireann's weather warnings beginning at that time.

The warning states: "Storm Amy: Strong to near gale force and gusty southwesterly winds. Potential impacts: Difficult travelling conditions, debris, loose objects displaced and some fallen trees possible."
Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo are under a Status Orange wind warning. It comes into effect at 2PM and ends at 10PM on Friday.
It reads: "Storm Amy: Near gale force to gale force and very gusty southwest to west winds. Impacts: Fallen trees, damage to power lines and possible power outages, very difficult travelling conditions and possible wave overtopping."
When it comes to power cuts, ESB Networks warns that if you see or know of damaged lines or networks, do not go anywhere near them and absolutely do not touch them, instead please call their emergency line on 1800372999.
ESB Networks has a number of recommended precautions people can take ahead of an outage:
Never approach fallen electricity wires or damaged poles, and keep children and animals away - report damage to ESB Networks at 1800 372 999 or +353 21 2382410 and listen to recorded messages carefully Turn off electric cookers, ovens, irons, etc. if electricity supply is lost Leave a light switched on so you know when power has been restored Take extra care if using candles, oil lamps or other naked flames Test smoke alarms with fresh batteries Ensure adequate ventilation if using gas heaters
