Niger State Records 289 Cases Of Cholera, 17 Deaths

The Commissioner outlined the response strategies being implemented to address the outbreak, noting that a dedicated committee has been established.

The Niger State Commissioner for Secondary and Tertiary Health, Bello Tukur, has said that Cholera cases in the state have risen to 289, with 17 deaths recorded and nine people hospitalised across 11 local government areas of the state.

Tukur made this known when he appeared before the Niger State House of Assembly, where he and the Minister of Primary Health were called to discuss the rising cases of Cholera in Nigeria.

The Commissioner outlined the response strategies being implemented to address the outbreak, noting that a dedicated committee has been established.

He emphasised ongoing efforts to coordinate actions across primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare sectors to effectively manage the situation.

According to him, the state is leveraging technical expertise and strategic planning to enhance its epidemic preparedness.

The Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Primary and Secondary Health and representative of Paikoro Constituency, Pharmacist Umar Nasiru, urged the public to avoid open defecation, properly dispose of waste, and boil water from unknown sources.

Nasiru also stressed the importance of seeking medical attention for diarrhea symptoms instead of self-medicating.
