Alex Katouzian, Qualcomm's Group GM of Mobile, Compute and XR, says Snapdragon's 15 years of AI experience gives it an edge, bringing AI from the background to the forefront to assist users and generate content. The artificial intelligence (AI) chip race is on, and at the heart of it is Qualcomm's Snapdragon. From smartphones to smart cars, PCs to XR, Snapdragon powers a wide range of devices.
Storyboard18 spoke with Alex Katouzian, Group GM of Mobile, Compute and XR at Qualcomm, about AI performance, power efficiency, and what's next for the platform.
Katouzian explained that Snapdragon is redefining the AI experience on premium devices. "People are used to launching apps, searching the browser, booking airline tickets, or reserving restaurants. In the future, they should be able to just talk to their phone and ask for things. The assistant will then become the user interface, understanding your context, schedule, texts, emails, and location," he said.
All of this stays private on the device, and only if needed, it will access the cloud securely with permission.
When asked what gives Snapdragon an edge in the AI race, Katouzian highlighted Qualcomm's long experience. "We've been working on AI for the past 15 years, implementing capabilities on devices and with ecosystem partners.
AI used to be in the background, but now it's in the foreground, assisting users and generating content. Our technologies are optimised for speed, efficiency, and battery life. Plus, our close partnerships with companies like Google and Microsoft allow continuous feedback to improve the user experience."
With a decade of Snapdragon innovation behind it, Qualcomm is focusing on making AI more personal, powerful, and pervasive.
