Rasmus Hojund receives Manchester United response after goalscoring revival - Manchester Evening News

Rasmus Hojlund has received a response from Manchester United players past and present after issuing an update on social media.

The striker joined Serie A champions Napoli on a season-long loan this summer after being deemed surplus to requirements by Reds head coach Ruben Amorim. Despite his initial wish to stay at Old Trafford and fight for his place, even with the arrivals of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko, it seems his decision to leave has been vindicated.

Hojlund only managed to find the back of the net four times in the Premier League for United last season, contributing to the club's disappointing 15th-place finish in the English top flight. However, in just six appearances across Serie A and the Champions League, Hojlund has already matched that goal tally under Napoli boss Antonio Conte.

And the forward has now shared an update on social media while on international duty with Denmark. The 22-year-old has scored twice during the current October internationals.

"A wise man once said: "Goals are like ketchup. Once they come, they keep on coming," he said on Instagram.

Hojlund's post has received likes from Denmark and Reds teammates Patrick Dorgu, former United player Christian Eriksen and Mbeumo.

Meanwhile, Denmark boss Brian Riemer has aimed a thinly veiled dig at United over Hojlund's form for Napoli. On whether Hojlund can still succeed in England, Riemer said, via TipsBladet: "I think Rasmus has the quality for both leagues, without discussion.

"Does he fit in Italian football? Yes. There was no doubt about that, because he had already proven that.

"But that doesn't mean he doesn't fit in English football. On the contrary, I would almost say."

He added: "The fact that he is now on a well-functioning team and has players around him who take pride in doing good for others helps to make the outcome for a striker like Rasmus, who needs to be serviced. It is more important than which league you play in."
