He made this remark to journalists following his conversation with the U.S. president on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, according to an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"Trump is a game changer by himself," Zelensky said.
He stressed that there are few international players in the world capable of doing so, but the U.S. president is one of those who genuinely has such influence.
Zelensky also pointed to the potential role of Chinese leader Xi Jinping. However, he said he does not see any desire from China to end the war: "They are not interested. Really, I don't know why."
For this reason, Zelensky continued, he views Trump as the real player who could stop the war.
The Ukrainian president also noted that the U.S. administration seeks to ensure pressure on Russia and the countries supporting it runs in parallel with Europe. However, he noted that due to Europe's complex decision-making processes, things sometimes move more slowly, which is why Ukraine urges the United States to move forward without waiting.
"The United States can definitely take strong steps on its own, and we would very much like to see that," Zelensky said, adding that he discussed this issue during his meeting with Trump.
He gave a positive assessment of the conversation with the U.S. president, calling it "a good discussion." Zelensky stressed that Trump reacted positively to everything shared by the Ukrainian side, including its approaches to establishing peace.
At the same time, Zelensky noted that "President Trump is ready to provide Ukraine with security guarantees after this war ends."
