No changes to Munro Lake wildfire in Peachland

BC Wildfire Service last updated the fire on Monday afternoon (Sept. 29)

The Munro Lake wildfire in Peachland remains status quo as of Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 8:15 a.m.

BC Wildfire Service's (BCWS) latest update, which came just before 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 29, stated the blaze was 381 hectares in size.

According to the Environment Canada station close to UBCO, it rained 1.4 millimetres on Tuesday. The little amount of rain mixed with cooler temperatures were expected to help the blaze, which BCWS noted in the Monday evening update.

Much the same is expected throughout Wednesday as a mix of sun and cloud is expected with a 40 percent chance of showers and a risk of a thunderstorm in the afternoon. There is currently no air quality advisory in place. Southwesterly winds of 20 km/h are also expected with gusts up to 40 km/h.

All evacuation alerts remain in place, as well as the evacuation order for ZipZone Adventure Park at 5875 Brenda Mines Road. The map of the affected areas can be found here.

There are currently 84 BCWS firefighters responding to the scene, as well as three helicopters, structure protection and heavy equipment crews.

The fire was discovered on Sept. 25. As of Wednesday morning, it is one of just five out-of-control wildfires in the province.
