There's a lot of change that's been going on in Freeport, Maine, recently. From a brand new L.L. Bean flagship store being constructed to the evolving look of Main Street that will soon include an international restaurant.
While plenty of new things are happening in the heart of downtown, there's also a new thing coming a little further down the road.
For the second time in about 18 months, Mainely Custard along Route 1 in Freeport has been sold. Last year, it was purchased by a Scarborough businessman who hoped to keep the more than 15-year tradition alive while adding a few new menu options.
Now, the prominent shop has been sold to the family behind Well and Good Brewing in North Yarmouth. If you're in it only for the custard, have no fear. It doesn't appear any changes are on the horizon for how the custard is made or how the shop operates. However, Well and Good does plan to start selling pints of Mainely Custard at their brewery.
According to Portland Food Map, Mainely Custard will get a slight adjustment to its outdoor space. And that adjustment is going to be a tasty addition to the menu.
Well and Good plans to open a beer garden in the space next to Mainely Custard. They'll serve their own craft beer selections and also plan to offer a small but delicious menu of sausages.
