Aug. 23 -- A large retail space in the Sierra Vista Shopping Center off Montgomery Boulevard will welcome a discount store once again.
Burlington, formerly Burlington Coat Factory, is opening a new location in the 33,969-square-foot space at 9500 Montgomery Blvd NE in November. The national retailer is known for selling a broad range of brand-name apparel at lower prices.
"We're thrilled to bring another store location to the community," a Burlington spokesperson wrote in an email.
The new store will be Albuquerque's fourth Burlington. It will create between 65 and 75 jobs, the spokesperson said.
The store fills a retail space formerly occupied by a Big Lots, which filed for bankruptcy last year and vacated the property in April, according to one of the shopping center's listing brokers, AJ Johnson with Pegasus Group.
The Sierra Vista Shopping Center is also home to Hobby Lobby, Marshalls and Panda Express. Johnson said the addition of Burlington "enhances the overall tenant mix."
"With this momentum, we are in conversations with other high-caliber national retailers to fill the remaining limited vacancies," Johnson said.
The shopping center currently has a 6% vacancy rate, with roughly 10,000 square feet up for grabs, but if ongoing negotiations result in deals, that rate will be brought down to 2%, Johnson said.
