Meghan Trainor's son might not yet grasp the concept of movie magic, but he definitely knows his dad, Daryl Sabara, when he sees him -- even if it's as his childhood role as a "Spy Kid."
In a recent interview with Bustle, the "All About That Bass" singer reflected on her career, balancing it with motherhood and raising two children while in the spotlight. She also shared a sweet detail about her oldest son, Riley, and his reaction to seeing Sabara in the "Spy Kids" franchise, in which he played the role of Juni Cortez.
"Riley has seen it a couple of times, but I don't know if he registers what's happening, because he calls it "Baby Dada," she shared. "I bought all the toys that I could find on eBay so they could have little figurines of (their dad)."
Trainor and Sabara married in 2018 and have since had two sons. They welcomed Riley in 2021 and another boy, Barry, in 2023.
Trainor also spoke about how her life has changed since becoming a mom.
"It's the best, but it is weird, especially because I don't know a lot of people who do what I do and have babies," she explained. "I would like to get more mom friends who do what I do, because it's weird doing a 12-hour day like this, and then wiping boogers."
With Riley now 4, the singer says preschool is on the horizon, though she says she's not entirely all about that classroom yet.
"We're talking about putting (Riley) in school," she continued. "He's 4 now and gonna be in preschool. I'm like, 'Yeah, but I'm gonna travel; I'm not gonna not see my kids.' And they're like, 'Well, this will make him normal.' But I'm not normal. So I'm figuring it out as I go, and I have a lot of questions."
Sabara has spoken candidly about fatherhood and what he himself wants for his kids. In a 2023 interview with People, just before he and Trainor welcomed their second son, he reflected on his role as father and shaping a relationship with his children.
"I'll say that it's pretty amazing because I didn't have a dad growing up. My dad left my family when I was 1. So becoming a dad has kind of given me this existential experience of getting (to) become the dad that I always wanted," he said.
