A summer of reflection and time spent with constituents

A summer of reflection and time spent with constituents

The Government's recent announcement of 30 hours of free childcare is one of many examples of how it is supporting hard-working families in Harlow and the villages.

This will save families an average of £7,500 a year and is part of a package of measures, including free nursery schools and bringing down the costs of school uniforms, designed to support parents.

As I start my second year as your MP, I have continued to get out across the constituency, listening to residents and acting on your priorities.

Over recess, I held a roundtable with parents of SEND children in the constituency. This gave me the opportunity to hear about the challenges that they are facing with the current system, which is in desperate need of reform. I have subsequently relayed what I heard to the Secretary of State for Education.

Last week, I launched my campaign in Roydon to help commuters who feel frustrated when, often without warning, trains are cancelled.

I have written to Greater Anglia and look forward to meeting with them to discuss this issue further.

Sticking with railways, on the other side of Harlow, I am campaigning to get streetlights surrounding Harlow Mill station turned back on.

A number of you have contacted me about this issue, an issue which has led to people not feeling safe. I have met with the chief executive of Essex County Council on this matter.

Residents' safety is hugely important to me, which is why I welcome the Government's investment in five new neighbourhood police officers for Harlow.

I recently joined officers from Harlow station in a 'ride-along' and I was hugely impressed by their hard work and dedication in keeping our community safe. Once again, I thank them for all they do.

It would be amiss of me not to note the number of flags which have been raised across the town. I have published a statement on this, which is available on my website and Facebook page.
