FCTA begins 2025 integrated vaccination, targets 1,586,014 children

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) offically kicked off 2025 integrated vaccination campaign, targeting to reach a total of 1,586,014 children across the territory.

It was gathered that the campaign for all children 0-14 years, which aims at protecting children and community members from preventable diseases, is going to last for 10 days, during which healthcare providers will be visiting households, worship centres, markets and other public spaces across the FCT.

In particular, the first phase of the vaccination campaign implementation focuses on Measles- Rubella vaccine - 9 Months to 14 years, Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine - Girls 9 years old, Oral Polio Vaccine 0-59 months, Routine Immunization . 0-23 months, Malaria -SMC and NTDs respectively.

This was disclosed by the FCT Primary Health Care Board (PHCB) yesterday, at a One-day Media orientation on the Integrated Vaccination Campaign in FCT, held in Abuja.

Speaking at the event, FCT-PHCB's Executive Secretary, Dr. Rukayat Wamakko explained that the integrated vaccination campaign has been scheduled from 6th to 18th October, 2025.

She appealed to parents in the nation's capital to cooperate with vaccinators to ensure seamless vaccination exercise through out the period.

Wamakko noted that the campaign will enable the government effectively reach more children within the target population especially those in hard to reach communities in the terriory.

Earlier, in a paper titled: The Role of the Media in Mobilising for Participation and Strengthening Immunisation, a deputy director, health education, FCT-PHCB, Mrs. Umeh Chinyere, revealed that a minimum of 1.5 million doses of the vaccines have been made available for the Immunisation exercise.

Umeh noted that the media has continued to provide purposeful and innovative leadership in ensuring successful vaccination campaign across the country.

She added that the media remains an important channel for debunking and correcting false information because it helps spread information fast and far across networks.

She noted that misleading information could lead to public Health Crisis by worsening diseases spread and overwhelming health care systems.
