UAPB 3, ALABAMA A&M 0
Kenny Fabian tossed a four-hitter for the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff in its series-opening victory at Bulldog Field in Huntsville, Ala.
Fabian worked all 9 innings, striking out 6 and walking 2 for UAPB (17-32, 15-9 Southwestern Athletic Conference), which had only six hits in the game. But the Golden Lions took advantage of three errors by Alabama A&M (10-38, 2-25).
Ben VanMaanen's sacrifice fly in the first gave UAPB a 1-0 lead. Eli Gries-Smith added to that cushion when he sent Collin McLemore home on a single in the second. The Golden Lions got their final run of the evening in the sixth after McLemore scored again, this time off a double from Gries-Smith.
The Bulldogs had just one runner in scoring position in the game, and that came during the bottom of the sixth when Desmore Joseph advanced to third, but he was left stranded there when A.J. Anderson grounded into a double play.
