A man found dead at a Folsom home that was destroyed in a fire on Monday, as officers responded to a report of an armed person barricaded inside, has been identified as 56-year-old Eren Keith Powers, the Sacramento County Coroner said. His death is classified as a suicide. Folsom police said flames engulfed the residence on River Ridge Way off American River Canyon Drive as officers responded to the report of an armed person there.After the fire was extinguished and the smoke cleared, Folsom fire and crime scene investigators got their first look at the damage. They said it's a crime scene.They stayed in a holding pattern most of Tuesday, only peering inside the burnt and broken windows as the home was too dangerous to go inside."We do have structural issues. So we're working on fixing that to where we can make full access and continue the investigation," Battalion Chief Bill Woodward said. Crews arrived with lumber and two-by-fours to shore up the walls and stabilize the home to get the investigation started.In one bright spot in the deadly ordeal, firefighters found the family cat hiding in a backyard shed. The homeowner arrived to see her home gutted by fire and reunited with her pet.She left quietly without commenting on what happened. Scanner traffic indicated the Folsom Fire Department initially responded just before 5:30 p.m. to a report of the fire."Working alongside a Crisis Counselor, officers made ongoing efforts to communicate with the individual inside while evacuating nearby residents to ensure public safety," Folsom police said on Facebook on Tuesday. Police said the man found inside the home was located on Tuesday morning after the scene was secured. Around 7:35 p.m. Monday, LiveCopter 3 captured footage of a person wearing a bright reflective vest walking up to the house before he was surrounded by law enforcement and firefighters, and appeared to be taken into custody. Officials said that person was unrelated to the barricaded subject and may have mental health issues.
