Skanska, a project development and construction group, has been awarded a contract by the Norwegian Road Authority to construct a new section of the E6 highway in Nordland County.
The contract, valued at Nkr4.4bn ($427m), involves the development of approximately 21.5km of new road between Sommerset and Megården.
It includes the design and construction of three tunnels spanning an estimated 13.8km, along with a 6.9km road, three bridges, and multiple smaller structures.
The E6 Sommerset-Megården highway is a significant infrastructure project in the south of the region and is the first stage of the overall plans for the E6 Megården-Mørsvikbotn project.
It is aimed at enhancing traffic safety and capacity south of Bodø, fostering regional growth and development.
The project is expected to be certified to Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method Infrastructure's high standards.
Detailed engineering is set to commence immediately, with construction starting this month and completion anticipated in mid-2031.
Skanska has secured an additional contract with the University of Virginia in the US.
Under this contract, valued at $66m, the company will build the Paul and Diane Manning Institute of Biotechnology in the City of Charlottesville.
The institute, spanning roughly 33,000m², will feature facilities for translational research and collaboration between researchers and biotech companies.
Construction started in December 2023, with completion targeted in the fourth quarter of 2027.
Skanska recently also obtained multiple contracts across Scandinavia for construction and redevelopment initiatives.
