Preps: Fall sports begin in mostly successful way for valley teams

For the most part, the start of fall sports in Cache Valley was a successful one Tuesday.

There were three girls volleyball teams in action with each one beginning the 2025 campaign with a victory. Two girls soccer teams began the season. One school won and the other suffered a close loss.

Here is a look at the action on Tuesday.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Defending Region 11 champion Green Canyon was minus its best player, but still prevailed in straight sets against 6A Davis, 25-5, 25-18, 25-19. Ridgeline also got the best of a 6A program in Farmington in four sets, 25-17, 25-20, 23-25, 25-13. Logan, who is now competing in the 3A classification, swept 4A Jordan, 25-17, 25-21, 25-22.

At North Logan, the Wolves began the season without reigning All-Valley Player of the Year Audrey White. The junior tore an ACL back in February and is ahead of schedule to return, but will need some time to get up to speed when that does occur.

Meanwhile, Green Canyon returns a wealth of experience and rolled over the Darts on Tuesday. Eight players recorded a kill as the Wolves hit .289 as a team. They also served up 11 aces, something this team has been known for.

Keira Birch led the team with eight kills, hitting .294. Jaylee Adams hit .667 with seven kills. Charly Monson led in the aces department with five, while also leading the team in digs with 10. Eliza Force recorded three aces and had 31 assists. Avery Birch led the team at the net with three blocks.

At Millville, the Riverhawks finished strong against the Phoenix after dropping the third set.

Brynlie Cornia led Ridgeline with 15 kills. Teagan Sabillon finished with 11 digs and 13 assists.

The Grizzlies picked up their win at Jordan. The Beatdiggers played better each set, but Logan was able to complete the straight-set win. Statistics were not available Tuesday night.

GIRLS SOCCER

Green Canyon turned a close game into a rout in the second half with a 5-1 win against former region foe West Field. Logan dropped a 1-0 game to Jordan.

At North Logan, the Wolves got a hat trick out of U.S. national team player Chloe Sadler. The junior also had an assist.

Green Canyon held a 1-0 lead at the break, but found the back of the net four times in the second half. The Longhorns recorded their lone goal in the second half.

Also scoring for the Wolves were Kloey Tensmeyer and Gracie Knight. Jaycee Knight, Eva Israelsen and Tess Campbell had assists for the hosts.

Green Canyon is back in action Thursday at Fremont.

Logan played the Beetdiggers close the whole game after giving up a first-half goal. The Grizzlies just couldn't dent the scoreboard as Jordan keeper June Joseph picked up a clean sheet to begin the season.
