Dan Burn has challenged his Newcastle United team-mates to put their Bournemouth hoodoo behind them today.
The England international issued a rallying call after Newcastle lost 2-1 to Barcelona in the Champions League, admitting the Magpies must prove they can raise their game for bread and butter games in the Premier League.
Newcastle have failed to win a game at the Vitality Stadium since the Saudi-backed takeover in 2021 and the appointment of Bournemouth legend Eddie Howe.
Burn told Chronicle Live: "We've not played well there since I've been here anyway, so it's something we'll look to put right.
"It's a mentality thing, we can't just turn up to these big games against Barcelona and then not perform at the weekend.
"We've struggled at Bournemouth, since I've been here anyway, and not turned it on.
"Those are lessons that we'll hopefully learn from the last one and recover and go again."
Burn pointed out that Newcastle had not been at their best in the 1-0 win over Wolves last weekend but still got the result but then showed good signs against Barca and lost.
Burn said: "We got that win at Wolves which I thought we needed, and probably not played as well as we've played before, but we got the win.
"Now it's important that we go and perform at Bournemouth and get the result that we want.
"Without being disrespectful, the rest of the teams that we're playing are winnable, it won't be Barcelona and PSG every week
"Those two games that are going to be the toughest ones.
"There's games that are winnable in there if we turn up and play like we're supposed to"
Burn was pleased with many aspects of the Magpies' performance against Barca though and said: "We played pretty well, to be honest.
"First half, everyone knew we were coming out to press Barcelona, and I don't think we were disappointed. We were lucky probably not to go in maybe a goal up, but second half, they really sort of showed their class.
"The midfield three stopped us getting good pressure on and then Marcus popped up with two really quality goals. They showed why they're one of the best teams in Europe."
Newcastle did not enjoy the same opening night glee they did when Paris St-Germain were beaten 4-1 and the 6ft 7in defender got on the scoresheet.
But he reflected: "Yeah, it was a different experience. We've had that experience two years ago, it was the same with the Cup final going back to that. I think the first time we got the Champions League, it was just a lot of emotion.
"I feel like we really deserved to be here, and we were ready to perform tonight. It's disappointing. We don't want to start the campaign losing, but it's not all bad."
