The Preston Indians competed in a very competivie 5A State track meet at Mountain View High School on May 16-17. The boys team finished Preston finished ninth overall with 30 points and the girls were 11th in also with 30 points. Bishop Kelly rolled to the boys title with 113 points, while Skyline was a distant second with 57. The Moscow girls were triumphant with 95 points, followed by Bishop Kelly with 79.
Carter Perry powered his way to the silver medal in the 100 to led the way for Preston on Day 2 of the 5A State Championships. The sophomore clocked in at 11.16. Perry also earned a spot on the podium in the 200 (fifth, 22.73), plus teamed up with Jaxson Merrill, Ty Burnett and Elliot Keller to finish sixth in the 4x200 relay with a season-best time of 1:30.79.
Additionally, the Preston boys got Saturday team points from Jonathan Cole in the 800 (seventh, 1:58.74) and Kylton Atkinson in the 300 hurdles (seventh, 41.04).
Leading the charge for the Preston girls was Ellie Nelson, who followed up her fourth-place performance in Friday's discus by finishing fourth in Saturday's shot put (37-5). The senior wrapped up her impressive high school career as a three-time state medalist in the shot put and a two-time medalist in the discus, and she is the program record holder in both events with marks of 41-4.5 (shot put) and 129-9 (discus).
Other athletes who fared well for the Lady Indians in Day 2 were Hayven Holyoak in the 300 hurdles (fifth, 48.05), Hallie Spackman in the javelin (fifth, PR of 107-2), Elina Priestley (fourth, match PR of 10-0) and Myah Atchley in the 800 (fourth, 2:21.53).
