The Boston Red Sox have been amazing this season, but another tragedy has struck. One of their future core players is out for the season.
Per Christopher Smith, Sox manager Alex Cora has revealed that Marcelo Mayer is going through with season-ending surgery to correct his wrist. Mayer previously got a cortisone shot to try and get back this season, but it looks like it didn't work out.

Mayer had been batting .228/.272/.402/.674 with four homers, but in his last nine games something clicked, and he was hitting .296.
Now, it looks like two of the Big Three, Mayer and Kristian Campbell, won't be on the big league roster come playoff time. Only Roman Anthony remains, as he has been dominating in the Majors.

Campbell may be able to force the issue, however, as he has been tearing it up in AAA. It's up to Cora to make the call, but it probably won't happen.
Mayer will be ready come 2026, as the surgery only needs three months of recovery. Hopefully he comes back at full strength, and becomes the second basemen the Sox need.
