The New York Liberty appeared down and out in Game 3 of the WNBA Finals against the Minnesota Lynx, trailing by eight at halftime with all the momentum on Minnesota's side.
However, fueled by the sheer dominance of Breanna Stewart and a game-winning three-pointer from Sabrina Ionescu, the Liberty surged back to secure a thrilling 80-77 victory, taking a 2-1 series lead over the Lynx. Game 4 is set to take place in Minnesota on Friday.
Stewart's impact on both ends of the court continues to be remarkable, and she made WNBA Finals history on Wednesday night with her extraordinary performance.
In 35 minutes of action, Stewart recorded 30 points, 11 rebounds, four blocks, one assist, and one steal, shooting 9-for-20 from the field and 2-for-6 from beyond the arc.
With this performance, she became the first player in WNBA history to have multiple Finals games with 30 or more points and 10 or more rebounds.
In a tie game with roughly nine seconds remaining, the Liberty put the ball in Ionescu's hands. Her cold-blooded mentality shone through as she executed a crisp step-back three-pointer, despite strong defensive pressure. There was never a doubt as she knocked it down, leaving just one second on the clock.
This moment showcased the trust between Ionescu and Stewart on the court. Ionescu had ten points at that moment, while Stewart remained unstoppable throughout the game. Their chemistry is a key reason why the Liberty have been the best team in the WNBA all season long.
