The Chester Historical Society and Chester Hill Association are sponsoring a free tour of the Chester Center Cemetery at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26. Parking is available at 334 Skyline Trail.
The tour will visit the graves of residents who were involved in the controversial excommunication of Dr. Martin Phelps, an event that divided the town in the early 19th century. There will be minimal walking but some of it will be on uneven ground.
Following the tour, participants can visit the restored Chester Center Schoolhouse and enjoy refreshments by the wood stove.
The tour will be held rain or shine but heavy rain will move the program indoors to the First Congregational Church.
