Paige Bueckers took the court for the second time in her WNBA career on Monday as the Dallas Wings hosted the Seattle Storm.
Bueckers played much better on Monday as compared to her 10-point debut in their season-opening loss to the Minnesota Lynx on Friday. The No. 1 overall pick dropped 19 points against the Storm on 7-of-14 shooting, five rebounds, eight assists, two steals, a block and one triple in 37 minutes of action.
Unfortunately for the Wings, it still wasn't enough as they suffered a 79-71 loss against Seattle to mark their second straight defeat of the new season.
Bueckers decided not to bring back her familiar dreads for Monday's game. Instead, she wore her hair the same way she did in her WNBA debut, which is in a slick back ponytail.
According to the 23-year-old herself, she's decided to forgo her dreads to give her scalp some relief. She also revealed that she's opted for a slick back do, but has not yet fully committed to doing either the ponytail or the bun.
In the same interview with the WNBA, the Wings guard acknowledged the fact that she's now following in the footsteps of two legends, not only in terms of their impact on the sport, but with their hairstyles as well.
Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi are two icons who both sported the slick back hairstyles during their playing days, and Bueckers knows that she has some pretty lofty expectations to live up to.
"Really, Sue and Dee were like huge slick back women," Bueckers said. "And so I feel like they've sort of passed the torch. But yeah, huge shoes for sure."
Bueckers then revealed that she got the chance to talk to Bird about her slick back style, but that the four-time WNBA champ may have withheld some crucial information.
"I did ask Sue what kind of products she uses, but she was like, she just, she didn't really give me a specific product," Bueckers said. "Maybe she's gatekeeping, but she said she just waters it down."

Bueckers knows that she will need to work extremely hard to give herself the opportunity to potentially reach the same heights Bird and Taurasi did during their iconic careers. As it turns out, the rookie might also need to learn how to best wear her hair on he own.
