Rev up for an ATV rally this weekend in Mattawa

The Voyageur Multi-Use Trail System club (VMUTS) in Mattawa invites you to come out for a ride this weekend to help raise funds for the club.

The ride also offers an opportunity to showcase two new bridges recently installed by the club. Yvan Robidas, president of VMUTS, explained, "We just put them in about three weeks ago, and both are 60 feet long." The bridges cost $360,000, Robidas added, and this weekend's fundraiser will help replenish the club's coffers.

So far, Mother Nature is cooperating, with sunny weather forecasted for Friday evening and all day Saturday.

On Friday, September 19, the ATV Fun Run leaves the Mattawa Legion at 360 Hurdman Street, Mattawa, at 6:30 p.m. After the ride, riders can enjoy a bonfire and refreshments.

On Saturday, the Legion will host breakfast at 8 a.m., and participants can begin the rally from there between 8:30 and 10 a.m. Drivers can register on site.

Robidas said VMUTS has about a dozen volunteers who maintain over 350 kilometres of trails. "Most weekends there are all kinds of ATVs, jeeps and motorcycles using the trails," he added.

To participate, it's $75 per driver and $45 per passenger. You can register at the event, or in advance through the VMUTS website.
